.NG Domain: NiRA rolls out security upgrade

…pre-implementation activities begins  November 27, 2025

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has begun preparations to roll out a major security upgrade called DNSSEC for safety of the .ng online space.

In a message by NiRA on Friday, the association said that the DNSSEC helps ensure that when anyone visits a .ng website, they are reaching the real site and not a fake one set up by attackers.

This step, it noted, will make the .ng name space more secure, reliable, and trustworthy for everyone.

Why this matters to you
When you type a website name, your computer asks the internet “where is this site located?” Normally, those answers can be faked or tampered with by attackers. DNSSEC works like a digital seal of authenticity, making sure the answer your computer gets is the real one.

“By using DNSSEC, all .ng websites and their visitors will be better protected against scams, fake websites, and other online attacks. It makes the entire .ng space safer and more trustworthy for everyone.”

Deployment Timeline
The .ng team will commence pre-implementation activities on 27th November 2025 in preparation for the DNSSEC deployment.

“Updates on our progress and the official cutover date will be shared in subsequent communications.

What This Means for Domain Holders:
•     No immediate action required

For DNS Operators/ISPs:
•     Existing DNS queries will continue to work normally

For .ng Domain Registrars:
•     Training materials will be provided
•     Integration timeline will be communicated separately
